Observing the By-Election in North East Guadalcanal at Papae Polling station (In the Highland of North East Guadalcanal Constituency), I had a chance to talk with a Mother of three children who walked three hours through muddy mountain roads to cast a single ballot.
“For Me, I cast my ballot not because I want to, but I cast my ballot because I want a leader that will create an opportunity for my struggling children,” Said the Mother.
“I want to have a future, going through this hard life. I think it’s time for our people to vote for a leader that leads like a leader, most of the time people living in town will say in the village you’ll enjoy a peaceful life.”
“But for us here, in reality, there is no peace without a school (quality education), Health Center, and police station,” the mother said.
The mother said she watches and listens to all the candidate campaigns talk about their vision, and their plans, but she made her decision on whom she will vote for while walking in the bush.
Meanwhile, from Observation, there is a good turn out of Young Men and Women who cast their ballot in Papae Polling station.
